Karla came to the United States at the age of 5 with her family’s hope of achieving “The American Dream.” From early on, Karla knew that the only way to get anywhere in life was by working hard as her parents worked long hours. Thanks to their work ethic and persistence, her parents provided her and her sister with the education needed to make that dream a reality. Currently, Karla is an Account Specialist at The NPD Group, a market research company. She works with sports retailers and helps them make better business decisions through data driven results. Karla started in January of 2019. This is Karla’s first full time role coming out of St. John’s University which she graduated from in May of 2019. Through her college career, she had multiple roles in sales, marketing, social media, and research. Karla was honored with and received the Outstanding Student Achievement Medal at graduation- one of the most prestigious awards at St John’s. She graduated with a B.S. in Marketing and Business Analytics. Sports helped shape Karla into the woman she is today. Her first love was and still is Futbol (soccer) which she started playing at the age of 6. She also picked up a love for running later on in her life. Through sports, Karla learned all about commitment, dedication, sacrifice, passion, persistence, and discipline. Futbol taught her the importance of never giving up and manifesting Napoleon Hill’s, “You become what you think about all day long.” Sports helped Karla overcome adversity. From growing up in a low income household to keeping the faith as a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) Dreamer recipient, it taught Karla to never settle and continue to set and achieve bigger goals both on the Futbol field and off as she achieves her own “American Dream.”
