Take it from the Ironwoman

Trust the Process: Dr. Rodney Fisher on Running Six Majors and Coaching from the Passenger Seat, Ep. 564

Episode Summary

Executive leadership coach and veteran marathoner Dr. Rodney Fisher talks about the historic sub-two-hour London Marathon πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ β€” the largest major marathon ever run. Rodney walks through his race-day ritual: grounding breathwork, coaching himself through the jitters, and reminding himself that his only real competitor is himself πŸ§˜β€β™‚οΈ. He opens up about hitting a rough patch with tendonitis mid-race, choosing to walk and hydrate rather than push through injury 🩹, and finishing strong anyway β€” a reminder that the goal isn't always the PR, it's the finish. Rodney reflects on the surprising duality of marathon running: surrounded by tens of thousands of people, yet deeply alone with your own thoughts πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’, and how connecting with pace groups along the way became its own kind of community. A late bloomer who ran his first marathon β€” New York City β€” in his 50s, Rodney's now chasing the six-star Abbott World Majors πŸŒπŸ…, with Berlin next and Boston as his self-described "dessert on the menu" for 2028. He ties it all back to leadership coaching: showing up present and grounded for clients the same way he shows up at a start line, trusting the process, and remembering that joy β€” not just achievement β€” should be the common denominator πŸ’›πŸŽ½.
