On Oboch’s 11th birthday, December 28, 2019, he celebrated the Grand Opening of his thrift store "Obocho’s Closet" right here in Brooklyn, NY. ( https://www.instagram.com/tv/B_h7fWHgxqW/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet ) Three months later, he was forced to downsize to a much smaller space with the onset of COVID 19. This left him incredibly sad and a bit discouraged. He asked his mom Sasha to help him figure out a new strategy to continue to do what I love the most…helping his community. The seriousness of the pandemic made him broaden his vision, but IT DID NOT DEFEAT ME. Providing the underserved communities with affordable children’s clothes/shoes while helping them become more financially literate with monthly seminars is now only a piece of the puzzle. Obocho had to decide how my mission was going to pivot. During the shelter in place, him and his mom teamed up and became the “Dynamic Duo”. Together, they began actively sewing masks to keep the entire public from paying the ultimate price…the price of death! As the pandemic continued, Obocho noticed there was even a bigger problem threatening households. Families were now forced to go to food pantries to survive even his own. HE COULD NOT SIT AND DO NOTHING and decided to do something. On October 24, 2020, with his mothers guidance, he hosted the first “Community Food Pantry” which was a huge success. As the word began spreading, Obocho’s mom started a gofundme in order for him to continue the monthly pantry for at least 3-4 months. He did not want to let down the community even if only 100 families could be served a month. As a young CEO, Obocho want to continue to be an example that all things are possible and we should never give up. As he see the world through the eyes of a child, he hopes his journey inspires you to continue to have hope that we WILL get through this together. I
