- Avalon chose Applied Physics for its balance between physics and engineering but she has also developed an interest in Medieval Studies. - She enjoys writing fiction and will undertake an independent study in long-form writing. She plans to read books like "The Alchemist," "Tender is the Flesh," "Metamorphosis," and "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" during her travels. - She is a member of Wiffenpoofs, the oldest Acapella group. She will be on their world tour visiting cool places like the Sydney Opera House, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Dublin, and Cape Town. ...and she sang for us... listen to the end of the episode
Avalon Scarola is a rising senior at Yale University, majoring in Applied Physics with a Certificate in Medieval Studies. Over her academic career, she has worked to acquire a well-rounded set of skills in physics, engineering, design, history, and creative writing. She finds fulfillment in learning new things and pushing herself out of her comfort zone. Originally in the class of 2024, she has taken a gap year to travel and perform with The Yale Whiffenpoofs, America's oldest collegiate a cappella group. Avalon looks forward to returning to Yale in the Fall.
